LABC Housing Affordability Survey Gains Significant Attention

May 11, 2024

SCG was proud to work with longtime client the Los Angeles Business Council in the development and public release of the group’s recent public opinion survey on the topic of housing affordability.

With a citywide survey and two focus groups conducted of both homeowners and renters, LABC was able to gain valuable insight into what Angelenos believe is causing the present crisis, as well as the solutions that offer the most promise for the future.

“Voters are fed up with housing costs and urgently want the government to step in to accelerate new housing production citywide,” said Mary Leslie, president of the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC).

Overall, by a nearly 2:1 margin, voters believe the City of L.A. should substantially increase the number of new housing units. Most voters favor expanding Mayor Bass’ Executive Directive 1 to including housing for middle-income residents. Voters also overwhelming support speeding up the approval process for housing that includes affordable housing and is located near public transit or dense urban areas, and changing the law to make it possible to build larger apartment buildings along major transportation corridors and in commercial areas.
