Looking back, one of my personal highlights from the past year was participating in Quality Time with PR Minds, an annual community service event hosted by the Los Angeles chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The one-day event gives local nonprofit organizations facing communications challenges the opportunity to receive pro-bono counsel from seasoned PR professionals.
I was paired with two relatively new nonprofits, each with inspiring missions. The first group I met has a mission to bring healthy food to low-income communities across the county. We brainstormed ways that the organization could leverage their strategic partnerships to expand into more communities. We also reviewed strategies to improve the organization’s media profile to bring more visibility to their work. The second group that I counseled is seeking to improve reunification rates between foster children and their birth parents. We developed a strategy to bolster their profile by enlisting dynamic L.A. leaders to sit on their board.
It was rewarding to donate my time and expertise to help organizations that are making L.A. a better place for all of us. You can be sure that I’ll be at this year’s event – and recruiting my colleagues as well!
