Reviving a Historic Laguna Beach Treasure

October 12, 2021

Offering panoramic views of the Pacific, whose waves tumble to shore just a stone’s throw away, the Hotel Laguna is a stately icon in the heart of Laguna Beach – a 90-year-old landmark whose guests have included the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, and other luminaries from the golden era of Hollywood. The hotel had been closed for several years and needed a full makeover.

The Laguna Beach Company, a family-owned real estate firm dedicated to investing in the local Laguna community, undertook the sweeping renovation and upgrade. Classic details of the Mission Revival-style building were uncovered and revitalized, while the lobby, bar, and two oceanfront restaurants were transformed in a modern style that still pays tribute to the hotel’s illustrious past. The festive re-opening ceremony drew a full house of excited residents and city leaders – and today the restaurants Larsen and Fin (led by a Michelin-starred chef) are among the most popular reservations in town.

The ground floor transformation of the Hotel Laguna was just the start for the Laguna Beach Company. They recently upgraded and re-opened the hotel beach club. Next up will be the re-opening of the hotel’s guest rooms – upgraded to meet the needs of 21st-century travelers. Sugerman Group has been privileged to work with the Laguna Beach Company and the Honarkar family as they brought new life to the Hotel Laguna, and we look forward to the next chapters of this storied seaside destination.
